Wayne Rooney has confirmed he won't return to management. The former England international reflected on his career with some regrets.
What happened?
Rooney started his managerial career at Derby County, guiding the side to survival in the Championship despite a heavy points deduction.
He then managed DC United in the MLS, but failed to qualify for the playoffs, winning just 14 games out of 53.
Managerial struggles
Rooney's stint at Birmingham City was short-lived, with just two wins from 15 matches, resulting in a 13% win rate.
He also managed Plymouth Argyle, but failed to inspire the team, culminating in a nine-match winless streak.
Reflection and regrets
Rooney expressed regrets about his managerial career, particularly his timing at Birmingham City, in an Ask Me Anything Reddit Q&A with BBC Sport.
He stated, "I think you always have regrets, and [I] reflect on what I've done."
Future plans
Rooney has found his voice as a pundit and seems to be focusing on this role, becoming one of the most recognisable figures in football broadcasting.
In January, he mentioned it would be a no-brainer to join Michael Carrick's backroom staff at Manchester United, but for now, he's ruled out a managerial return, saying "Probably not."
Rooney's decision comes after a tumultuous managerial career, with his last stint at Plymouth Argyle ending in a dismal nine-match winless streak, as of May 2024.
