Wayne Rooney has been left out of Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer's all-time England XI, alongside seven other Three Lions legends. The former England strikers named their best-ever team, excluding Rooney despite his 120 caps and 53 goals for England.

Who made the cut?

Lineker and Shearer selected Peter Shilton in goal, with Kyle Walker, John Terry, Bobby Moore, and Ashley Cole in defence. Paul Gascoigne and Bobby Charlton anchored midfield, flanked by David Beckham and John Barnes. Harry Kane and Jimmy Greaves led the attack.

Why Rooney was left out

Rooney, England's all-time top scorer, lost out to Kane and Greaves in attack. Shearer and Lineker opted for midfielders Gascoigne and Charlton over Gerrard and Lampard, while Terry and Moore were preferred in defence over Ferdinand and Campbell.

The full XI

The team includes World Cup winner Moore, Euro 2020 star Walker, and 1966 hero Charlton. Sir Alf Ramsey, England's only World Cup-winning manager, leads the side. Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, and others were among the notable absentees.
